The Reference Team at the Moody Medical Library at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston is seeking a creative, knowledgeable, enthusiastic colleague to join in providing excellent user-focused service to our faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment to proactively serve assigned liaison departments and the general UTMB community.
Responsibilities
- Serves as liaison to departments as the primary contact and communication link for library and information related activities.
- Assists library clients in locating and using discovery tools, databases, and other online sources of information.
- Provides reference support in person, by phone, email, and interactive chat using appropriate reference tools or online sources of information.
- Performs literature searches in appropriate databases, including for systematic review support.
- Assists clients in citation management using bibliographic citation management tools.
- Participates in library education programs by teaching and developing classes, orientations, demonstrations, and tours.
- Designs and revises instructional materials and tutorials in both print and online formats.
- Creates and maintains web-based guides to support liaison departments and general resource discovery.
- Stays abreast of, and assists in disseminating, developments in search tools/interfaces, data management, scholarly publishing, and copyright, as applicable to the UTMB audience.
- Assists in collection development by providing subject area expertise for selection and de-selection.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships and a professional environment.
- Represents the library within the UTMB community, and with other librarians.
- Maintains expertise by participating in relevant conferences, committees, workshops, and seminars.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Sciences and one year related experience.
- Must possess communication skills and verbal presentation abilities for interaction with the library staff and users.
- Ability to plan, organize, set and accomplish goals, and be self-motivated.
- Ability to analyze / evaluate data and make appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to promote and work in a team concept to accomplish goals.
- Ability to be assertive and flexible while working under constant time constraints.
- Knowledge of library science principles and procedures.
- Ability to conduct literature searches in multiple platforms and databases.
- Thorough knowledge of health science literature and reference tools.
