The Utah State University Libraries is seeking a dynamic and collaborative candidate for the position of Instructional Design Librarian. This role is pivotal in supporting the USU Libraries’ commitment to advancing teaching and learning through innovative instructional practices and inclusive pedagogy. The Instructional Design Librarian will contribute to the interdisciplinary instruction efforts within the Student Learning and Academic Empowerment Unit, working closely with library colleagues and campus partners to develop and implement effective instructional resources for undergraduate students. This position also engages with students and faculty as a member of a broadly defined disciplinary library team.

 

Reporting to the head of the Student Learning and Academic Empowerment unit, the position is a 12-month, tenure-track faculty appointment. Support and mentorship are built into the tenure process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support for undergraduate instructional design initiatives, focusing on pedagogical innovation and emerging research tools to enhance student learning experiences in the classroom and online
  • Provide instruction for early undergraduate programs such as English Composition, Concurrent Enrollment, and support initiatives to integrate library instruction materials and workshops, fostering foundational research skills among students
  • Develop robust, sustainable, and accessible instructional materials, including common lesson plans, digital learning objects, and Canvas modules, in collaboration with library staff, instructors, and campus partners
  • Engage in research and assessment activities as part of a collaborative team, to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of library instruction, informing ongoing enhancements to our instructional offerings
  • Support inclusive teaching practices at USU Libraries, ensuring that instructional materials and approaches meet the diverse needs of our student population
  • Provide research support services through consultations and instruction as part of a disciplinary team

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent by August 2024
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and emerging technologies
  • Commitment to responding flexibly and effectively to the shifting needs and priorities of the Libraries’ and University’s constituents

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in academic libraries
  • Experience integrating inclusive teaching practices into instructional design efforts
  • Experience creating digital learning objects, such as multimedia elements, video tutorials, and interactive learning elements
  • Interest in designing and facilitating instruction, either in classroom settings or online environments
  • Commitment to understanding the evolving needs of students and adapting instructional strategies to meet emerging expectations
