Carney, Sandoe & Associates, an educational recruitment firm, is currently seeking an experienced Library Director at an independent school in the Greater Boston area.

 

The school is seeking an innovative, dynamic, and experienced Library Director who will support our school’s mission – inspiring innovative thinking, empowering responsible leadership, and honoring individuality within a nurturing community. Teachers in each grade work as a close-knit team to support each other and collaborate on curriculum development. They pride ourselves on being a warm and welcoming inclusive community.

 

Responsibilities of the Library Director:

  • Inspire a love of reading, fosters students’ critical thinking skills, and empowers students to be capable researchers and ethical users of information.
  • Demonstrate strong organization and planning skills and an ability to create a warm and inviting library environment.
  • Manage the Library team (1.5 FTE plus parent volunteers)
  • With the Library team, teach preK – 8th grade students
  • Build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff and apprentices to assist with curriculum development, especially around literature and research
  • Oversee general collection and cataloging activities to manage and curate Library materials
  • Readers’ advisory for entire community
  • Monitor the social and emotional wellbeing, and academic achievement of students
  • Engage in professional development to enhance inclusive teaching and leadership practices.

 

Requirements of the Library Director:

  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Science
  • Master’s in Education and/or K-12 Teacher Librarian Credential
  • Previous library experience required, preferably in an elementary or middle school setting
  • Familiarity with integrated learning through a thematic approach
  • Have substantial expertise in the field and will be: skilled in fostering persistent problem solving, knowledgeable about adolescents’ intellectual, social, and emotional development
  • Creates an inclusive environment and effectively employs multicultural, anti-bias, antiracist teaching strategies that reflect cultural competence
  • Uses multicultural materials and resources
  • Proficiency with Google Apps and Apple products
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
